Amy Karam is based out of The Health Enrichment Network (THEN) in Oakdale, Louisiana. She brings a diverse background in healthcare marketing and rural business development in underserved Louisiana parishes to the EatMoveGrow program. Her passion and efforts have resulted in tremendous program growth. She started with a small dental project at a single elementary school and has seen the program expand to cover many health topics across the Louisiana delta. In 2017, Amy, along with Donna Newton, received the LAHPERD Service Award for her commitment to serving the children of rural south Louisiana through her leadership role in EatMoveGrow.


Amy received a BS in Journalism from Louisiana State University. Her marketing experience in various settings which include the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Public Affairs Department, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Rehabilitation Hospital of Baton Rouge, and Oakdale Community Hospital provide her with a diverse healthcare background. Her work experiences, along with her rural development volunteer work such as Oakdale Chamber President, founder of the Oakdale Parent Teacher Organization, and service on the Allen Parish Ward 5 Industrial Development District have helped her approach obesity crisis in rural areas from all angles. She was asked to serve as founding Chairman of a Department of Public Health Dental Consortium which focused on expanding school-based screening and sealant programs across the state.
