Lisa Staples, MPH, CHES
Lisa Staples is the Oral Health Lead for EatMoveGrow’s oral health program. Lisa leads EMG Dental providing oral health education and working closely with the EMG Health Educators and school administrators to coordinate in-school oral health clinics which include screenings and prevention services. She is passionate about improving oral health for the children in Louisiana and loves working with school administrators, school nurses and local dental professionals to increase the number of brighter smiles in our state.
Lisa was born and raised in Carmel, New York. She received a BA from The State University of New York at Binghamtom. During college she participated in a study abroad program in Spain and became proficient in written and oral Spanish. After graduating from college, Lisa moved to Baton Rouge to work in the Teach for America program. Upon completing her two-year obligation to the corps, she accepted a teaching position at a charter school in New Orleans. Her teaching experiences were eye opening to the challenges faced by her students. Factors other than education were a daily struggle to them. Lisa’s interest in the overall well-being of her students led her to pursue a Master in Public Health from LSU Health Science Center. During her graduate studies, she learned that childhood obesity is one of the most concerning health issues facing our country today. Oral health is a contributing factor to childhood obesity which led Lisa to focus her attention on oral health access to combat the rising childhood obesity rate in Louisiana. As the Oral Health Lead for EatMoveGrow, Lisa is determined to help improve the oral health access for children in rural communities. She always loved working in the classroom and is excited to work with students again in a different capacity.
In addition to Lisa’s experience as a teacher, she is a former AFAA Certified Group Exercise Instructor and enjoys leading an active lifestyle. Spinning classes are one of her favorite activities. She brings intense energy to the EMG team!
