Joanna Faerber, 2009 National NASPE Elementary Teacher of the Year, Southern District and Louisiana Teacher of the Year, taught physical education at Louisiana State University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge for the past 31 years of her 38 years of service. She is currently working with a federal grant that services the rural schools in the delta parishes of Louisiana – Eat Move Grow: Growing Up Fit Together. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and has received degrees in health and physical education at Arkansas State University and East Carolina University. She received her specialist certification from University of Southern Mississippi.
Joanna has been involved in many leadership roles with LAHPERD, Southern District and SHAPE America. She is currently the Louisiana Joint Projects Coordinator and co-manager of the Exhibits for the State Convention. For SHAPE America and Southern District, she serves as the Chair of Partnerships and Initiatives and as a member of the Joint Projects Committee. She is a Master Trainer for the Presidential Youth Fitness Program with SHAPE America, Champion Ambassador for the NFL Fuel Up to Play 60 and editor of the 4th edition of the Elementary Physical Best Activity Guide.
Joanna travels both nationally and internationally promoting quality physical education through teacher trainings. She has been involved in writing and developing HPE curriculum and teacher assessments and for Louisiana, China, Taiwan and Chile.
When she is not teaching, you can find her and her husband geocaching and bowling around the world.
