Melise Newton is currently employed with Bunkie General Hospital as EatMoveGrow’s (EMG) Program Coordinator and the Heart & Health Department at Bunkie General Hospital. The relationship between EatMoveGrow and Bunkie General Hospital has allowed Melise to network with grassroot organizations and community leaders to provide obesity prevention programming to central Louisiana. Melise serves the parishes of: Allen, Avoyelles, Acadia, Catahoula, Concordia, Evangeline and St. Landry. The relationships she has made within the schools during her time with EMG have become an integral part of her success.
Prior to working with EMG, Melise started her career as a classroom teacher. While she enjoyed her time in the classroom, she was ready to expand her love for education as well as health and fitness and bring it to not only one classroom but many. She realized that she could get her message out to hundreds of children through the EMG program. EMG has given Melise the opportunity to work with children on a day to day basis, giving them the resources they need to lead healthy lives. Melise holds a B.A. in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University in Alexandria. Melise is certified in American Heart CPR & First Aid and has completed the NIH certification for Protecting Human Research Participants.
