Amy Karam brings a diverse background in healthcare marketing and rural business development in underserved Louisiana parishes to her work on the Delta Dental Project. Her marketing experience in varied settings includes the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Public Affairs Department, Our Lady of the Lake Hospital and Rehabilitation Hospital of Baton Rouge, and a position as the Marketing Director for Oakdale Community Hospital (named a Top 100 Hospital during her tenure) has provided Karam with diverse healthcare background. These experiences coupled with her rural development experiences as Oakdale Chamber President, founder of the Oakdale Parent Teacher Organization and years of service on the Allen Parish Ward 5 Industrial Development District have helped her approach the Better Health for the Delta Dental project, Seal-a-Smile, from all angles.
The project has grown from an in-school screening and sealant program in one school to a regional initiative that has served more than 6,000 disadvantaged children in rural Louisiana. The project was so successful in bringing together diverse partners throughout the state that Karam was asked to serve as founding Chairman of a Department of Public Health Dental Consortium focused on expanding school-based screening and sealant programs across the state. Amy has completed the NIH Certification for Protecting Human Research Participants.
