EatMoveGrow (EMG) is a federally funded grant program that offers a wide variety of engaging programs to children, families and schools in rural, underserved elementary schools and communities across Southeast Louisiana. Our primary mission is to close health gaps and create opportunities that promote stronger health environments for children.

EatMoveGrow is actively involved in obesity prevention work specific to Delta parishes. We assist schools in forming School Wellness Committees that drive policy changes to support healthy living while conducting ongoing research to progress movement opportunities. Our passionate Coordinators play an active role in providing and teaching lessons for students to learn and apply healthy habits.

EMG acts as a champion for partner schools in under-resourced areas.

In addition to our partnerships and classroom curriculum, we connect schools with prominent grant opportunities and educational resources on health and wellness. In connecting them with necessary tools to aid children in growing up fit and healthy, we facilitate services to help change their overall environments. Operating as a total wellness resource, we ensure our programs and services go beyond the curriculum and work to incorporate the following:

Playground Enhancements

We work to help elevate the children’s playground area in any way possible and even paint their play spaces.

Grant Programs

We help facilitate grant writing for faculty and also assist them in placement with grant programs that fit their specific needs.

In-School Coordination

As we work to implement better structures in partner schools, we place well-equipped, passionate Coordinators on campuses to oversee the programs.

Cafeteria Assistance

EatMoveGrow provides schools with the knowledge, motivation, and support needed to build a lunchroom environment that makes the healthy choice the easy choice for all students. Using practices based on the national Smarter Lunchroom movement, EMG Coordinators helps schools implement no-cost or low-cost strategies lunchrooms can use to increase participation, improve consumption of healthy food, and reduce food waste.

School Gardens

School gardens create classrooms in schoolyards. They connect students with the true source of their food, and teach them valuable gardening and agriculture concepts and skills that integrate with several subjects, such as math, science, art, health and physical education, and social studies. Educational goals include personal and social responsibility; Garden-based teaching addresses different learning styles and intelligences; our non-readers can blossom in the garden.

Brain Energizers

In order to increase movement throughout the child’s day at school, we incorporate brain breaks, which are physical activity breaks that help children get active, prepare to learn and improve their concentration.

Our excellent team and diverse statewide partnerships have made it possible to create sustainable, policy-based improvements to school health environments in the Eat Move Grow service area. Our staff is working in schools every day to continue building exciting opportunities for the children we serve.

EatMoveGrow serves schools in rural areas throughout the Delta Parishes. Our Coordinators work diligently in our EatMoveGrow schools to provide children with a healthy learning environment and to provide faculty and staff with the necessary resources to impact positive and healthy changes in the classroom, the lunchroom and on the playground.
