Donna Newton, MS, CEP
Donna Newton brings vast experience in rural preventive service networks that provide education and preventive programs to improve individual health and expand access to health care through her nine years as Executive Director of The Health Enrichment Network in Allen Parish, LA.
Donna began her career as a teacher in the Public School System in Avoyelles Parish. She has taught both junior high and high school students and continues to mentor students in athletics. After receiving her Masters in Exercise Science she became the Director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Wellness Center for Oakdale Community Hospital. Since that time, she has worked more than 15 years developing a myriad of health and education programs in rural communities. In addition to her role as the Director of THEN, Donna served as Project Director for Louisiana Better Health for the Delta – Phase II project from 2006-2008. In 2008, THEN was awarded the Office of Rural Health grant for Service Region B – Delta States Rural Development Network Grant for a Childhood Obesity Program – Growing Up Fit Together that encompasses 23 Louisiana parishes in Service Region B. In 2011, Donna was selected by her peers to represent them at the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) Rural Voices Leadership Conference in Washington DC.
Through Newton’s keen understanding and experience of rural communities and obesity, she was instrumental in developing a lower elementary curriculum that addresses the problems of nutrition and lack of physical activity. Donna has certifications in AHA CPR & First Aid, Lifestyle Coach, and NIH Certification in Protecting Human Research Participants.
